Fence guide

Before you hire a fence contractor

Straight answers to the questions worth asking any contractor, plus help choosing the right type of fence.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, Lucky Fencing is licensed and insured. [Add Tennessee license number.] In Knox County, Tennessee requires a Home Improvement license for remodeling projects from $3,000 to $24,999, whether or not a permit is needed. You can check any contractor's license with the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors. [Confirm this is still current.]

How deep do you set the posts? Do you use concrete?

Post depth depends on the fence style, the ground, temperature and wind load. A common rule is one third of the post below ground and two thirds above, so a 6-ft fence uses 9-ft posts with 3 feet buried. Concrete should be used for every vinyl, aluminum and chain link post.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. We handle the whole process, starting with a free in-home quote and helping you decide on a fence budget. Call (865) 470-4289 or use the quote form.
